BENEDETTO IN THE TOP FIVE
Argentine striker ties Mauro Gerk with 20 goals
TIJUANA –Dario Benedetto has played 46 games with Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente and the Argentine striker has become one of the top five scores in team history.
Benedetto, known as “Pipa,” scored his 20th Friday night against Queretaro FC, tying Mauro Gerk who played 74 matches with the Xoloitzcuintles.
Raul Enriquez leads the list of all-time Club Tijuana scorers with 81 goals in 203 games. Duvier Riascos is second with 23 in 65 games.
Benedetto talked about his contributions to the team after sending in the game-winner against Queretaro.
“It is always a great satisfaction to score and bring a lot of happiness to people,” Benedetto said. “The most important thing was that we were able to get the three points.”
Benedetto has scored six times in this tournament, having played in 940 minutes, averaging a goal every 156.67 minutes. He is amid the top three scorers in the LIGA Bancomer MX this season.
All stats aside, Benedetto is looking forward to trying to beat Chivas and get three more points and get into playoff qualification zone.
“The objective is always the same, to take each game the way we have done so, take it as it was a final,” Benedetto said. “We have four finals left and we are conscious that we need to keep adding points.”
