Xoloitzcuintles return to Tijuana after advancing to the quarterfinals in 2013 Copa Libertadores

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente was welcomed at the Tijuana International Airport by hundreds of fans Wednesday May 15 and congratulated the team for reaching the quarterfinals of the 2013 Copa Bridgestone Libertadores with a 2-1 win against Palmeiras of Brazil at Estadio Pacaembu in Sao Paulo Tuesday night. The Xoloitzcuintles won the home-and-home series with a 2-1 aggregate.


 


The fans voices could be loudly heard as the people of Tijuana showed passion for their team and support for the Xoloitzcuintles.


 


“We appreciate this reception,” coach Antonio Mohamed said. “It’s a great accomplishment and we are happy we advanced. Now we have to prepare for the quarterfinals and try to give Tijuana in a bigger spotlight.


 


“It was one of the most important games we’ve played in and now we have a commitment in which we will play for it all and get as far as we can,” said midfielder Fernando Arce.


 


The Xoloitzcuintles will face the top team in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores in Club Atletico Minerio of Brazil. Club Tijuana will train Friday May 17 and begin its preparations for the upcoming series, looking for a slot in the semifinals.
