CLUB TIJUANA 1-1 ATLETICO MINEIRO (3-3 FINAL AGGREGATE)

2013 Copa Bridgestone Libertadores; Quarterfinals; Second Leg

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente played to a 1-1 tie against host Atletico Mineiro in a quarterfinals second leg match of the 2013 Copa Libertadores Thursday night at Estadio Independencia.


 


Thursday night’s result ended the series with a 3-3 aggregate score but Atletico Mineiro advanced to the semifinals of the South American tournament.


 


Club Tijuana took a 1-0 lead when Duvier Riascos scored in the 26th minute. Riascos sent a right-footed one-timer off a centered pass by Juan Carlos Nunez on a breakaway. Riascos buried the ball past Atletico Mineiro goalkeeper Victor.


 


The Brazilian’s tied the match in the 41st minute when Rever Humberto sent a ball past Cirilo Saucedo to tie the match 1-1 and the aggregate at 3-3. Atletico Mineiro holds the tiebreaker with a better away goal score (2-1).


 


Riascos had a shot at sending in the possible winning goal but Atletico Mineiro goalkeeper Victor got a foot on the ball to make the save and give the Brazilian’s a slot in the semifinals.  


 


The Xoloitzcuintles come into the match tied 2-2 in the aggregate with the Brazilians after both teams played to a draw by the same score in Tijuana last week. Riascos and Fidel Martinez scored for coach Antonio Mohamed’s quad in that match up.
