Jorge Francisco Almirón, New Xoloitzcuintles Coach

Argentine coach is the ideal fit for Club Tijuana

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente announced today that Jorge Francisco Almirón will be the team’s next head coach, replacing Antonio Mohamed.

Almirón has experience as a player and assistant coach in Mexico. He comes to Tijuana from Argentina where he coached Club Defensa y Justicia of the Argentine second division. Almirón has the perfect philosophy to coach Club Tijuana and is characterized as a coach with solid values. He will coach the Xoloitzcuintles with the same philosophy and persistence this Mexican soccer institution prides on.

As a player, Almirón played in Mexico’s top flight league with Club Atlas FC (Winter 1997-Winter 2000), Monarcas Morelia (Summer 1999- 2004 Clausura) and Queretaro FC (2006 Apertura-2007 Clausura). He also coached in Mexico’s second division, formerly known as Primera A, with Club Leon and Dorados de Sinaloa.

Club Tijuana thanks Antonio Mohamed for what he brought to this institution during his helm as the Xoloitzcuintles coach in which he lead the team to a First Division title and the quarterfinals of the prestigious 2013 Copa Libertadores South American tournament in less than two years. For these and many other reasons, Club Tijuana’s administration and its players wish Mohamed much success in the future, on and off the field.

Meanwhile, Club Tijuana has finished work in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and will return to begin working on preseason preparations heading into the 2013 Apertura LIGA MX tournament.
