XOLOITZCUINTLES EARN A POINT IN GUADALAJARA

Club Tijuana 2-2 CD Guadalajara: Week 10: LIGA MX-2013 Apertura

GUADALAJARA (Sept. 15, 2013) –Aldo Polo and Fidel Martinez scored goals for Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente in a 2-2 draw against Club Deportivo Guadalajara in a Week 10 match of the LIGA MX-2013 Apertura Sunday at Estadio Omnilife.

Hector Reynoso and Marco Fabian scored for Guadalajara, with Fabian sending in the final score of the match in the 82nd minute to deny the Xoloitzcuintles its first road win of the season.

Guadalajara opened the scoring when Reynoso sent a header in to the left of a diving Cirilo Saucedo, the Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper, in the 14th minute for a 1-0 Guadalajara lead.

The Xoloitzcuintles answered with a score 20 minutes later. Polo scored in the 34th minute to tie the match 1-1 when he sped behind the Chivas defense and took a Cristian Pellerano filtered pass in the area, flicking it over Chivas goalkeeper Luis Michel into the net.

Coach Jorge Almiron’s team took the lead when Martinez found the net on a pass by Argentine striker Dario Benedetto in the 60th minute. The Ecuadorian striker sent Benedetto’s lobbed ball to the far post. That’s where he met the ball, tapping it in with his foot on a one-timer.

Fabian saved a point for Guadalajara when his free kick late in the match sailed past Saucedo to tie the game on a soggy, rainy afternoon.

“It was a very tight and complicated game,” Almiron said. “But we leave here satisfied with the team’s effort.”

Almiron used Saucedo, Javier Gandolfi, Juan Carlos Nunez, Edgar Castillo, Pablo Aguilar, Pellerano, Fernando Arce, Javier Guemez, Benedetto, Martinez and Polo in the starting line up. He used Paul Arriola, Oliver Ortiz and Greg Garza as second half substitutes.

The Xoloitzcuintles add a point to the standings with the tie. Club Tijuana is 3-3-3 with 12 points while Guadalajara is 1-4-4 for the season with seven points.

“We gained a point that helps serve as motivation for us to go looking to get more points next week at home,” Almiron said.

Club Tijuana will return to Estadio Caliente to host Cruz Azul Friday Sept. 20 in a Week 11 match with a 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) kickoff.
