CLUB TIJUANA SPECIAL GUESTS AT PETCO PARK

Herculez Gomez throws first pitch before San Diego Padres game vs. Dodgers

SAN DIEGO –Members of Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente were a special guest of the San Diego Padres Saturday night at Petco Park.

The Major League Baseball team welcomed the Xoloitzcuintles as part of a partnership between both organizations representing the Tijuana and San Diego region.

Club Tijuana players, team administrators and team mascot “XoloMayor” were present for the ceremonial first pitch before the Padres game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Xoloitzcuintles striker Herculez Gomez tossed the first pitch to Padres pitcher Clayton Richard. Club Tijuana’s Diego Olsina, Alejandro Guido, Greg Garza, Cristian Pellerano, Juan Carlos Nunez, Javier Gandolfi and Sporting General Manager Roberto Cornejo watched from behind the mound as Gomez threw the pitch.

The Padres deemed Saturday as “Xolos Night” at the stadium as fans in attendance received a soccer scarf with the baseball and soccer team logos.

The partnership between both professional organizations has helped bring soccer north of the border as part of the San Diego Clasico.

The Xoloitzcuintles beat Club America in a friendly match July 5th at the Padres baseball stadium in front of more than 29,000 fans.

Club Tijuana was also invited for the ceremonial “first kick” earlier this baseball season as Xoloitzcuintles defender Pablo Aguilar kicked a soccer ball “pitched” by Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso.

The Xoloitzcuintles and Padres plan to continue the partnership to help serve fans and the communities in Tijuana and San Diego.
