Club Tijuana prepares for friendly vs. Santos Laguna in San Antonio

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente maintains rythm during training in the final stretch of the LIGA MX-2013 Apertura and this week it is preparing for a friendly match against Santos Laguna in San Antonio, Texas Sunday Oct. 13 at Toyota Stadium. The match comes during the FIFA date as Word Cup qualifiers are played internationally.


 


The team coached by Jorge Almiron trained Tuesday Oct. 8 on the grassy field next to Estadio Caliente as it worked on intense conditioning and soccer schemes in reduced spaces.


 


Cirilo Saucedo and Herculez Gomez spoke with members of the press in the media mixed zone after the practice.


 


“We keep working to face what will be the closing part of the tournament,” Saucedo said. “We have high hopes to get into the playoffs. We are three points back from being in a qualifying spot with the hope that we can do it.”


 


Saucedo said maintaining a good tempo will be fundamental in the final phase of the Mexican soccer tournament.


 


“We want to take advantage of the game against Santos and maintain a good soccer rhythm,” Saucedo said. “There are things we will work on that need to be worked on and try to work our best during these last few games.”


 


Meanwhile, Gomez talked about the intensity in which the team has been working with.


 


“I find the group is doing well,” Gomez said. “We have this opportunity to take advantage of the long week. We have to do more, there’s a lot at stake. There are a few games left but we are betting on trying to get another championship. We now have Santos in a preparation match. We will work hard. That is the group’s mystique and then return to the league play.”  


 


The Xoloitzcuintles will continue with training sessions ahead of the friendly against Santos Laguna. Club Tijuana will train Wednesday Oct. 9 in the morning at Estadio Caliente in a closed session to the media.
