FACING WEEK 5

Club Tijuana visits Pumas UNAM; LIGA Bancomer MX-2104 Clausura

TIJUANA- Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente is focused on taking on the Week 5 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2104 Clausura in which it visits Pumas UNAM Sunday Feb. 2 at Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Mexico City.

The Xoloitzcuintles trained Monday Jan. 27 on the grass field adjacent to Estadio Caliente under the guidance of coach Cesar Farias.

Elio Castro and Jose Alberto Garcia spoke with the media in the mixed zone after the training session and talked about the Xoloitzcuintles’ next match up.

“We are working hard to continue on a good path,” said Castro, who has helped on the team’s back line during two shutouts (against Club America Week 2 and Monarcas Morelia Week 4).  “It is always important to gain points at home, it keeps us near the top of the standings and now we are looking to add (points) on the road.

“The coach’s support is fundamental. The confidence he has given me has reflected on the field and I try to take advantage of the opportunity. We are the best defenders in the back. We are on the right path and we want to continue doing that.”

Meanwhile, Garcia, the 18-year-old forward from Mexicali, talked about making his First Division debut in the Week 4 match against Monarcas Morelia Friday Jan. 24 at Estadio Caliente.

“It was a great feeling,” said Garcia. “Coach (Farias) told me to go in and play with my heart and to have confidence in my teammates. I think I did well because I’ve gone through a process with the Under-17 and Under-20 teams with Club Tijuana and it is a great step in my career. But  I am not satisfied. I want to go for more. I have been working since I was Young and fortunately I have been able to accomplish good things with hard work and a lot of people’s support.

“I feel proud to be of Mexicali. My friends and family have supported me a lot and they have backed me to get to where I am today. I am working harder to see if I got the opportunity (to play) in the next game.”

The Xoloitzcuintles will have a double training session Tuesday Jan. 28 on the grass field at Estadio Caliente looking towards Week 5 of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura.
