PUMAS UNAM 3-0 CLUB TIJUANA (Final)

LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura: Week 5

MEXICO CITY –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente allowed two goals in the first half and another in the second in a 3-0 loss to host Pumas UNAM 2-0 in a Week 5 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2104 Clasura Sunday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.

Daniel Luduena scored in the 16th minute, Dario Veron scored in the 35th and David Cabrera closed out the scoring in the 86th minute.

The Pumas goals came off Club Tijuana defensive miscues in which the home team caught the Xoloitzcuintles off balance.

Club Tijuana came out attacking in the second half, forcing Pumas to defend mostly in its territory. Fidel Martinez appeared to have scored in the 71st minute and cut the Pumas lead when he sent in a shot off a Paul Arriola centered pass. But the play was disallowed as Martinez was whistled offsides.

The Xoloitzcuintles came into the match looking for its first road win of the season after a 1-0 win against Monarcas Morelia at Estadio Caliente last week. Javier Gandolfi scored in the second half on a header off a free kick pass by Martinez.

Coach Cesar Farias’ team is 2-2-1with seven points in the standings.  Farias sent Fernando Arce, Cirilo Saucedo, Edgar Castillo, Gandolfi, Herculez Gomez, Fidel Martinez, Cristian Pellerano, Juan Carlos Núñez, Javier Güemez, Paul Arriola and Elio Castro as his starting 11 against Pumas.  Richard Ruiz, Juan Hernandez and Gregory Garza were second half susbtitutes.

The Xoloitzcuintles return to Tijuana for a Week 6 match against Rayados de Monterrey Friday Feb. 7 (7:30 p.m. Pacific).
