DEFENDING THE HOME FRONT

Xoloitzcuintles Under-20 looks to remain unbeaten at home vs. Monterrey

TIJUANA -Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente’s Under-20 team will aim to add to an already fast start to the season when it hosts Rayados de Monterey’s U-20 team Friday Feb. 7 at Estadio Caliente in a Week 6 match up of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura.

The Xoloitzcuintles (2-1-2, 8 points), coached by Franky Oviedo, comes into the match as the No. 5 team in the league standings. Club Tijuana is coming off a standout math, a scoreless tie last week against Pumas UNAM, the top team in the league standings.

Monterrey (1-2-1, 4 points) is in 12th place of the 18-team standings. Club Tijuana has had some success playing at home this tournament.

Playing at home can be an advantage for Club Tijuana. The team is undefeated at Estadio Caliente after beating Club Ameirca and Morelia

The Xoloitzcuintles will try to extend that streak and try to move into the top of the standings with a win. Club Tijuana has played as collective unit without a real standout player or star.

However, Alejandro Guido, who was injured for most of the previous tournament, is healthy and has produced a handful of key moments for the Xoloitzcuintles.

With Guido, a former midfielder converted forward is beginning to display a fluid brand of soccer.
