CD GUADALAJARA 2-0 CLUB TIJUANA UNDER-17

LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura: Week 10

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles Under-17 squad played to a 2-0 loss against visiting Club Deportivo Guadalajara’s Under-17 in a Week 10 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura Youth National Tournament.

Club Tijuana controlled possession for long periods of time but had trouble creating scoring opportunities in a match that was highly contested at midfield. Chivas, however, was able to generate some threats early in the match but Club Tijuana goalkeeper Carlos Lopez made a handful of standout saves to keep the match scoreless. Lopez deflected a shot that caught him leaning to the opposite side but he was able to recover in time to send the shot away for a corner kick.

But it was the Xoloitzcuintles that controlled possession for the rest of the half despite having few scoring chances. Club Tijuana’s clearest chance came in the 15th minute. Juan Rodriguez lofted a perfectly placed ball to Jose Michel, who was able to get a step on his defender. Rodriguez shot beat the keeper but was inches wide of the mark.

Club Tijuana continued with its control of possession in the second half but could not penetrate the Guadalajara defense, who took advantage and used counter-attacks on offense. Michelle Benitez beat his defender on a counter and sent a swerving cross into the heart of the box met by Jose Peralta, who made no mistake of it and put it past Lopez in the 53rd minute.

Guadalajara's second goal would also come on a cross, this time via corner kick. Jose Ramirez jumped clear of Club Tijuana's defensive line and headed home the ball in the 77th minute.

Club Tijuana's Christian Torres pulled his team within one in 88th minute when he capitalized on a loose ball and poked it into an empty net. But it was too late for the Xoloitzcuintles.

The Xoloitzcuintles will now travel to face Cruz Azul next week in a Week 11 match
