XOLOITZCUINTLES YOUTH TEAM WINS TO START 2014 GAUTENG FUTURE CHAMPIONS

Club Tijuana 2-1 Sunward Park (South Africa); Group stage; Week 1

PIMVILLE, South Africa -Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente began the 2014 Gauteng Future Champions tournament with a win in which it defends its 2013 title in South Africa. The youth team coached by Frankie Oviedo beat Sunward Park of South Africa 2-1 March 24 in a group stage match at the Football Training Centre.


Juan Rodriguez and Brandon Vazquez scored for Club Tijuana in the first match of Group C in which it now has six points after a default win (3-0) against Club Saki West of Nigeria in the second round. The Xoloitzcuintles will look for a slot in the semifinals when it closes group play when it faces Club Aspire Academy of Qatar Wednesday March 26.

The Xoloitzcuintles have been part of the previous two versions of this tournament, 2011 Belo Horizonte in Brazil, 2013 Gauteng in South Africa in which Club Tijuana took the title under coach Ignacio Ruvalcaba. The international tournament includes eight teams with historical and important accomplishments worldwide.


Manchester United (Englan), Boca Juniors (Argentina), Juventus (Italy), Flamengo, Cruzeiro, Corinthians (Brazil), Nacional (Uruguay), Colo Colo (Chile), Orlando Pirates


(South Africa) Barcelona (Spain) Paris Saint-Germain (France), Vasco Da Gama (Brazil) along with Mexican clubs Pachuca andd Club América are some of the teams that have participated in the Future Champions Gauteng.


This international experience adds on to the Xoloitzcuintles’ trip to Argentina in 2011 in which it competed against other youth teams such as Boca Juniors, River Plate, Racing de Avellaneda, Defensa y Justicia, Vélez Sarsfield, Lanús, San Lorenzo and the Argentine Under-15 national team.
