XOLOITZCUINTLES VS. ATLETICO MINEIRO (BRAZIL) IN 2014 FUTURE CHAMPIONS FINAL

Club Tijuana 2-1 CESD La Djiri (Congo); Semifinal

PIMVILLE, South Africa –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente will defend its Future Champions Gauteng title against Club Atletico Mineiro of Brazil in the championship final of the 2014 version of the international youth tournament in South Africa.


The Xoloitzcuintles beat Club CESD La Djiri of Congo 2-1 Friday March 28 in the semifinals. Club Tijuana coached by Frankie Oviedo got goals from Juan Rodriguez and Alexis Villalpando in the semis.


Club Tijuana and Atletico Mineiro met in the 2013 final. The rematch is Saturday March 29 in the tournament featuring Under-17 teams from throughout the world. The Xoloitzcuintles have a brief history against the Brazilian club who it played in the 2013 Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.


The young Xoloitzcuintles team finished the Future Champions group stage winning Group C with seven points with two wins and a tie. Atletico Mineiro won Group B with nine points with three wins and beat Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 1-0 in the semifinals.
