CIX TOURNAMENT INAUGURATION

San Luis Rio Colorado Academy holds first Xoloitzcuintles competition in Sonora

SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Mexico –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente once again proved that distance is not a factor when it comes to interacting with its fan base when it visited the CIX in San Luis Rio Colorado Friday March 28. Club Tijuana inaugurated its first CIX tournament in the state of Sonora.

The event was celebrated with a parade that ended at the Carlos G. Galles middle school where the Centro de Iniciacion Xoloitzcuintles is located and where more than 500 people witness the tournament inauguration.

Club Tijuana Administration Manager Roberto Gonzalez talked about Club Tijuana’s objective with this project.

“It is a great honor for the Club to support sports not only in Baja California but also in Sonora,” Gonzalez said. “Sports are a great way to help build great people and that is one of our institution’s goals.”

The Club Tijuana official mascot Xolo Mayor was also part of the event in which it helped motivate, cheer and mingle with those in attendance. The mascot posed for photos and welcomed the young athletes at the event.

A total of 30 teams will participate in the competition in seven different categories ages five to 16, competing against other teams from the border region. Teams from San Luis, Yuma and other parts of Arizona come to be part of the start of the Xoloitzcuintles tournament.

About 12 students already work in the Xoloitzcuintles San Luis Rio Colorado academy under the club’s philosophy. The academy opened in 2013.

The Titanes and Xoloitos teams kicked off the tournament, both teams in the Xolitos 2006 category.
