 TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente Under-17 team played to a 1-1 draw against CD Toluca Friday afternoon at Estadio Caliente in a Week 14 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura.

It was coach Ignacio Ruvalcaba’s team who came out fast and found the net in the second minute. Forward Juan Rodriguez took a throw-in with his back to goal. He turned and burst towards goal while beating three of Toluca’s defenders and goalkeeper Omar Vilchis with a well-placed ball to the far post and settling in it to back of the net.  

Club Tijuana used a solid defensive effort to help its offence in the first half.

Wingers Jose Almaraz, Mathews Da Silva and Rodriguez took a page constantly disrupted Deportivo Toluca’s defense, creating turnovers from Toluca backline, producing numerous scoring chances for Club Tijuana. One of those opportunities came in the 19^th minute when Rodriguez intercepted a short throw from Toluca’s goalkeeper, Vilchis. Rodriguez beat his defender and crossed the ball to a wide-open Da Silva, but his first-touch attempted sailed behind the net.  Toluca’s defense spent some time desperately clearing the ball from their defensive third, only to see Xoloitzcuintles regain possession at midfield and surge on attack.

Toluca took advantage of Club Tijuana’s constant pressure ultimately resulting in the tying goal in the 75^th minute after multiple attempts on the Xoloitzcuintles’ goal were stuffed by brave tackles, Toluca’s substitute Ramiro Fernandez took a bouncing ball in the box and buried it in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.

Club Tijuana came storming back and came close to taking the lead seconds after conceding a goal but a threatening low cross from Miguel Rodriguez was pushed wide for a goal kick. 14 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura.
