THE TEAM WILL GIVE EVERYTHING ON THE FIELD: JUAN CARLOS NUÑEZ
Xoloitzcuintles looks to turn luck around against Chivas
TIJUANA – The question keeps coming up. Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles players are frequently asked if the team is in a crisis after three-straight loses. And the players always have an answer.
“No, I don’t think it is a crisis,” said Xoloitzcuintles defender Juan Carlos Nuñez on Wednesday morning following the training session at the Estadio Caliente. “It can happen to any team. In all three games we could have turned it around and won but we didn’t put away our chances. The rival took advantage and that was the difference.”
Nuñez is a veteran of the club. He has been part of the team since it played in the Second Division. He’s seen tough moments within Club Tijuana when it comes to results. This is no exception. He is confident the team will reach the playoffs as long as it keeps its work intensity in the four remaining matches of the 2015 Clausura.
Club Tijuana is under intense preparation for Friday night’s game against Chivas of Guadalajara in Week 14 action of the LIGA MX. The Xoloitzcuintles look to the match against the ‘Tapatios’ to end a three game losing streak and inch its way to the playoff qualification.
Losses to Cruz Azul, Monterrey and Queretaro in Week 11, 12 and 13 has allowed the Xoloitzcuintles the opportunity to self-evaluate. What is the team doing right? What is it doing wrong?
“We need to be on alert to all details,” Nuñez said. “The past three games have helped to get better, to fix little details. That is what we have been working on all week long so that on Friday we can get the important three points.”
Organization on defense is what Nuñez and the rest of the stating backline will be looking for against Chivas. The visitors began the season with the pressure of relegation looming over it but have managed to play its way to the top of the table. It won important games at the right time.
“Well organized,” Nuñez said about what he expects his team to be against Guadalajara. “Not give any spaces. We know that the next rival has a lot of fast players that will wait for us to commit a mistake.”
A win against Chivas would get the Xoloitzcuintles closer to the main goal of qualifying to the playoffs. That is enough motivation to end the losing streak. A win can also put Club Tijuana back on top of the table. Coach Daniel Guzman’s team was in first place since a Week 7 win against Leones Negros.
“We know what is at stake on Friday,” Nuñez said. “The team will come out with that intensity and attitude to get the three points. It is an important game. A difficult opponent but we know we can over take them (in the league table).”
