Club Tijuana holds tryouts in Los Angeles area

NORWALK, Calif.- More than 400 young soccer players came out to be part of the Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente tryouts held Saturday June 7 at Cerritos College in Norwalk Calif.


Soccer players from throughout Southern California came to the event and went through several drills and played in scrimmages in front of Club Tijuana Fuerzas basicas coaches. Players participated in the free event with the hopes to be chosen and invited by the Xoloitzcuintles coaching staff to train and live in Tijuana for two weeks. Those selected will have the opportunity to experience the daily routines of a professional at the Xoloitzcuintles’ facilities in Tijuana. Players who earned an invitation will be listed on Club Tijuana’s official websites www.xolos.com.mx and www.xolos.com.mx/en and through social media the second week of June.


The tryouts were divided into two groups, the 1999 and 2000 categories and the 1997 and 1998 categories. Players were put through individual and team drills, fitness drills, tactical play in small spaces and played in short scrimmages. Coaches looked for standout players that could possibly shine in the Xoloitzcuintles’ Fuerzas Basicas. Those selected are scheduled to train in Tijuana during the preseason heading into the 2014 Apertura.


The tryouts were the first of its kind for Club Tijuana in the Los Angeles area. The event proves that the Xoloitzcuintles continue to stay committed to the community on both sides of the border. Club Tijuana hopes to continue to send quality players to its reserves and youth teams in Tijuana from throughout different areas surrounding the border region. Xoloitzcuintles Under-20 players and brothers Esteban Hernandez and Anthony Hernandez are from the Norwalk area where the tryouts were held Saturday. Anthony, the younger brother signed with Club Tijuana last week.
