XOLOITZCUINTLES INTERNATIONAL CALL UP

Brandon Vazquez joins Mexico’s Under-17 national team for Copa de Naciones

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente continues to be represented at the youth international level. This time it will be in the third edition of the Copa de Naciones.

Club Tijuana Under-17 forward Brandon Vazquez joins Mexico’s Under-17 squad for the international youth tournament to be played Aug. 2-10 in Mexico City with 16 nations competing. Mexico, United States, Canada, Honduras, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, Portugal, Scotland, China and South Korea are the participating teams.

The tournament serves as a measuring tool for teams looking into the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile.

Vazquez, 15, joins “El Tri’s” youth squad camp for the fifth time in his young career. The Chula Vista, Calif. native has played with Mexico in tournaments in Italy and in Panama.

“It’s great to be part of the national team because they are very organized and it’s fun to go play to the places they take us,” Vazquez said. ”It is a great commitment. I like to represent Club Tijuana and I do my best to make my club look good.”

Vazquez has been part of the Xoloitzcuintles youth system since 2012 when he began with the Under-15 team. Vazquez has played in 16 official matches with Club Tijuana, including a 2-1 win against Puebla FC last week in the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 season opener. He helped set up a 1-0 lead with a filtered pass to Cesar Crespo, who finished the play for a goal in the 10th minute.

“I hope to be a starter with the national team and go play in the Under-17 World Cup,” Vazquez said. “I want to stay there and eventually make it to the first team.”
