XOLOITZCUINTLES IN THE COPA MX- 2014 APERTURA
Club Tijuana begins Group 3 action vs. Club Zacatepec 1948
TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente begins Copa MX-2014 Apertura play Tuesday July 29 against visiting Club Zacatepec 1948 at Estadio Caliente (7 p.m. Pacific). The Xoloitzcuintles will compete in Group 3 of the Mexican soccer tournament that includes teams from the First Division and the Ascenso MX.
The tournament winner will face the Copa MX 2015-Clausura champion in the SuperCopa MX 2014-2015 to determine Mexico’s No. 3 slot in the 2016 Copa Libertadores.
Club Tijuana will play in Group 3 in which it will face CD Guadalajara, Zacatepec 1948 and Club Tepic where six games will be played in the group stage consisting of home and away series. Coach Cesar Farias’ team prepared for this tournament looking to get the initial three points so that it can begin the right path to reaching the knockout stages. This is the second time the Xoloitzcuintles compete in the Copa MX. The last time it played in this competition it finished in first place in Group 6 with 13 points and reached the quarterfinals in the 2012 Apertura. It lost to UAT Correcaminos in penalty kicks.
Tickets for the first match of the COPA MX 2014 Apertura against Zacatepec are on sale at the Estadio Caliente box office starting at 9 a.m. Tickets to the Week 3 LIGA Bancomer MX match against Tigres UANL Friday Aug. 1 (7:30 p.m.) are also on sale.
