XOLOITZCUINTLES RETURN TO COPA MX-2014 APERTURA ACTION
Club Tijuana visits Club Zacatepec; Group 3; Week 2
TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente returns to action in the COPA MX-2014 Apertura tournament Tuesday Aug. 5 when it visits Club Zacatepec at Estadio Centenario de Cuernavaca (5 p.m. Pacific). The match is the second of the home-and-home series in the first phase of the group stage.
The tournament features teams from the LIGA MX and the Liga de Ascenso, playing for a slot in the 2014-15 Super Copa MX where the COPA MX-2015 Clausura champion meets the 2014 Apertura champ. The winner will earn the Mexico No. 3 spot in the 2016 Copa Libertadores.
Club Tijuana is in Group 3 where it already faced Zacatepec in the first leg with a 3-1 win July 29 at Estadio Caliente with goals from Dario Benedeto, Joe Corona and Henry Martin.
Coach Cesar Farias’ team trained Monday Aug. 4 in the morning then made the trip to Cuernavaca where it will play its first of two games this week. The Xoloitzcuintles visit Monarcas Morelia Friday Aug. 8 at Estadio Morelos in a Week 4 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Apertura.
