New Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente coach is introduced

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente officially introduced its new coach Daniel Guzman Castañeda Monday Sept. 1 during a news conference at Estadio Caliente.


The 48-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico joins the team and will take over the head coaching position immediately as the team heads into Week 8 of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Apertura and its fifth game in the COPA MX tournament. Club Tijuana President Jorgealberto Hank, General Manager Ignacio Palou and Assistant General Manager Roberto Cornejo welcomed the new coach.


“Daniel is a person who likes his teams to play loose and comes out to try and win the games,” Hank said. “He is the type of person who can be a great coach again like he was when he coached Santos, a very successful team. He has comeback in mind, one that we can help him obtain. This is the right moment for Daniel to come here and have that comeback, that revenge he is looking for and we hope he starts with some of his known antics.”


Guzman is known for his soccer habits. He is known for putting together competitive teams that maintain an offensive minded brand of soccer that can be appealing to fans. Guzman led Santos to the title during the 2008 Clausura tournament after it beat Cruz Azul (3-1 aggregate).


The new Xoloitzcuintles coach was born in Guadalajara. Mexico on Dec. 31, 1965. He has an abundance of coaching experience in Mexico. He coached Club Deportivo Guadalajara, Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, Tecos de la Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Atlas FC, Santos Laguna, Puebla FC, Tigress UANL and Atlante FC.


Guzman brings his coaching assistants, Mauricio Gonzalez and Octavio Mora while Alan Alarcon will be the new team fitness coach.


“I am happy to come here and I come here with a vision to help put the “Xolos” in the top spots in the league,” Guzman said. “I want it to be a great competitive team just like I want to be competitive leading this great team with a great administration.”


The new coach praised the Xoloitzcuintles for its commitment to the fans and its desire and characteristic to always being a team that fights to be great.


“I promise a lot of work and a legacy that this team has always had,” Guzman said. I want to bring what this team has always been, a winning team at home and on the road. I have no doubt that we will do that with the help of the players, administration, the fans and all the Club Tijuana staff.”

Guzman, nicknamed “Travieso,” will have his first practice as head coach Tuesday Sept. 2 at Estadio Caliente.
