Xoloitzcuintles have first practice under Daniel Guzman

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente held its first training session under new head coach Cesar Guzman Tuesday Sept. 2 on the grass field next to Estadio Caliente.

The team went through some fitness drills and conditioning exercises under the new coaching staff and the enthusiastic coach Guzman, known as “el travieso” or the “menace.” The practice was filled with an electric and motivating atmosphere amid the players.

Guzman spoke with the media in the mixed zone after an intense and upbeat training session. He talked about his coaching strategies and fundamentals.

“I am very happy, we are in the honeymoon stage,” Guzman said. “We are getting to know my type of work and coaching and that is why we are having a lot of communication, interaction with the players so that they slowly begin to know what we intend to do as a team. We want to be a united team that plays a pleasant brand of soccer. We have a simple practice but at the end of the day we are always working to win every game.”

Guzman also spoke about the style he will try to implement into the team based on a club that will have a fighting attack and team filled with happiness and passion.

“Soccer to me is a life philosophy,” Guzman said. “We come to work on this field with a sense of happiness so we can enjoy our work, be passionate about it and fall in love with your profession. Our philosophy is to learn the game like when we were kids. If we try to keep this philosophy, you will see a happy team that likes to play soccer with basic concepts, practical and a team that will practice a soccer brand that we all like.”

Club Tijuana is focusing on its next match in the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 when it travels to face Pachuca FC in a Week 8 match Sept. 13 at Estadio Hidalgo.
