TOUGH FOUGHT TIE IN THE "BELLA AIROSA."

CLUB TIJUANA 1-1 PACHUCA FC; LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Apertura; Week 8

PACHUCA, Mexico –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente played to a 1-1 tie against host Pachuca FC in a Week 8 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Apertura Saturday night at Estadio Hidalgo. 


Hirving Lozano opened up the scoring when he sent a shot off his left foot past Club Tijuana goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo in the 12th minute. Alfredo Moreno tied the match for the oXoloitzcuintles when he poked in a Joe Corona pass from just inside the six-yard box.


Both teams had opportunities to send in the winning goal late in the match.


Club Tijuana was whistled for a penalty kick in the 88th minute but Abraham Carreño sent his penalti kick shot off the crossbar a minute later. Xoloitzcuintles captain Javier Gandolfi sent a header into the net off a pass by Cristian Pellerano but the goal was disallowed as Gandolfi was whistled offsides.


The Xoloitzcuintles earn a point in the standings, its first under new coach Daniel Guzman who took over the manager’s spot two weeks ago.


Guzman sent Saucedo, who made a series of masterful saves, as his starting goalkeeper while Gregory Garza, Israel Jimenez, Hernan Pellerano and Gandolfi were the defenders. Richard Ruiz, Javier Guemez, Juan Arango and Corona were the starting midfielders. Dayro Moreno and Alfredo Moreno, who scored the Xoloitzcuintles goal, were the starting strikers. Cristian Pellerano came on as a second half substitute in the 57th minute. Dario Benedetto (68th) and Juan Carlos Nuñez were also substitutes for Guzman’s squad.


Club Tijuana will next face Santo Laguna in a LIGA Bancomer MX Week 9 match Friday Sept. 19 at Estadio Caliente. Coach Guzman’s team will first travel to face CD Guadalajara in Copa MX action Tuesday Sept. 16.
