“THIS TEAM IS MADE FOR GREAT THINGS,” –EDGAR VILLEGAS

Xoloitzcuintles forward ready to face Atlas

TIJUANA –Edgar Villegas says the match against Atlas Saturday might as well be a championship final. The Xoloitzcuintles Under-20 forward sees this as an opportunity to take advantage of Club Tijuana’s speed.

“We are going to give it everything we have,” Villegas said. “We will play this game as if it was a championship final. The results will come, we just have to be patient and not get out of focus so we can get the win.”

Villegas know a little bit about scoring. He has scored twice against Atlas this season, including during a Week 16 match. Paul Arriola also scored a pair in that regular season game. Villegas added another goal Wednesday in the first leg of the home-and-home quarterfinals series.

“This is the playoffs,” Villegas said. “The other games are in the past and now we have this road game coming up. They are going to come out and look for the win but we need to be patient. The counter attack has worked for us this season and that’s what we will try and do. We are fast and I think that is to our advantage.”

Villegas has played in 14 games, including the playoffs and has logged 1,160 minutes in the tournament. He has scored seven times with the Under-20. He has also seen playing tie with the senior team this season.

“This team is made for great things,” Villegas said. “We have rematch from the last time we were in the playoffs. Now we want to take it step-by-step but we are looking to get that championship.”
