XOLOITZCUINTLES UNDER-20 WILL FACE CHIVAS

Club Tijuana takes on Guadalajara in Semifinals

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente’s Under-20 team will continue with its playoff run when it faces Club Deportivo Guadalajara in the semifinals.


The young Xoloitzcuintles moved on to the next round after beating Atlas FC 3-1 in the aggregate score last week and will now face the top seeded team in the tournament. The Xoloitzcuintles will host the No. 1 seed Guadalajara Thursday 9 p.m. (Pacific) at Estadio Caliente in the first leg of the home-and-home series. The second leg will be Sunday in Guadalajara at 7 a.m. (Pacific). 


Coach Raul Chabrand’s team is the No. 6 seed and finished with 28 points in the regular season with an 8-5-4 record. Guadalajara finished with 42 points with a 13-1-3 record. Both teams meet Oct. 26 in a Week 14 regular season match that ended in a 3-3 draw in Guadalajara. Edgar Villegas scored twice and Jose Alberto Garcia scored another for the Xoloitzcuintles in that match up. Daniel Rios scored a pair and Javier Lopez added another for Chivas.

Jose Alberto Garcia, the Xoloitzcuintles Under-20 forward has been called to Mexico’s Under-20 national team for the current camp preparing for the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers in January.
