THE AMERICAN’S CORNER: “WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS GOOD MOMENT,” –GREGORY GARZA

Fullback credits teammates for recent success

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico –Gregory Garza believes the team must score quickly and remain patient in order to continue the success Club Tijuana has been having this past week.

Club Tijuana will play a third game in less than a week. The next rival is Monarcas Morelia in a Week 4 match of the LIGA MX. Garza expects a tight match despite the fact that Morelia finished in last place in the standings last tournament and has one win in this 2015 Clausura.

“I expect a very tough game,” Garza said. “Morelia didn’t have its best season in the 2014 Apertura but it has a good roster. We have to take advantage of the good moment that we are in and continue winning. It’s a home game and a game for our fans at Estadio Caliente, so, we have to play with everything we have to give them a win.”

Garza is quick to credit his team for his own success and said he is always looking for a way to help the team get the results it wants. He said recent success is a team effort, credits team chemistry.

“We are a family and we are together every day,” Garza said. “We eat dinner, sleep together and train together. That is something that makes us stronger and helps us think about positive things. We are far away from our families, they help and support us. We need to help each other out so that we can become even a stronger team.”

GARZA AMID THE BEST OF THE WEEK

The Xoloitzcuintles fullback also had a good week as an individual. He was mentioned as one of the top players of the week by Mexican media outlets. International networks also took notice. ESPN International named him amid the top 25 American footballers of this young 2015 calendar year. Garza was his usual humble self when asked to comment on that fact.

“I think there’s still a lot more to go,” Garza said. “The most important thing is the team and for me, it is an honor being here with Xolos. But in the end, I think that I still need a lot to grow and be a player with more experience. I reiterate that the important thing is the team and that it continues to grow and I will grow with it.”
