OPEN TRYOUTS ARE UNDERWAY

Today the first tryout sessions were held for the age categories 1998 and 1999

TIJUANA - About 150 kids born in 1998 and 1999 were present on the first day of open tryouts  that Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles is holding in order to find new talent for its various teams in its youth system.

Led by Valtencir Gomes, Director of scouting, Jaime Vargas, Arturo Garcia and Jose Luis Meza were all in charge of observing the young players that showed up at Centro Iniciacion Xoloitzcuintles (CIX) Florido display their skills.

“The most important thing is skill,” said Gomes. “We look at the player’s physique to make sure they are strong and fast and have good skill. Then we take them into the youth system to be part of the team.”

Just like in other tryouts held by Club Tijuana, the scouts will get in contact with the players that they have selected to let them know what is the next step. They will then join the youth system on a probation status and an evaluation of their adaptation will be made.

“I’ve been on the job for about three months now,” mentioned Gomes. “I think we are doing a good job so far. In those three months we have had 15 kids join the team with signed contracts.”

Another round of tryouts will continue on Friday in Tijuana at the CIX Florido at 8:00 am for players born in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997.
