“WE HAVE A REMATCH AGAINST OURSELVES.” –DAYRO MORENO
Colombian forward ready for match vs. Puebla
PUEBLA, Mexico –Dayro Moreno knows the season opener against Puebla FC is the right opportunity to start the season on the right track. Win and get the three points on the road. It can be the best way to kick off the 2015 Clausura and begin a path toward the playoffs.
“We have a rematch with ourselves,” Moreno said. “We were left with a thorn in our side for not qualifying the last tournament. We have a match to start the tournament with (Saturday) and we need to start it off by adding three points because these are short tournaments. We are ready. We had a good preseason and we are ready to debut with a win and get to the playoffs.”
Moreno goes into the season opener confident and what he says is great shape, ultimately leading the head coach to insert the Colombian into the starting line up.
“We have understood very well what Daniel (Guzman) wants,” Moreno said. “He is a person who likes to work well. He gave us some confidence and helped us stay calm and we need to take advantage of that during the tournament.”
Moreno, who played in 14 games in the last tournament, wants this 2015 Clausura to feature an explosive attack by the Xoloitzcuintles.
“We work well and we want to start off fast,” Moreno said. “I need to be scoring goals because we know that as a striker, you always have to be scoring every week.”
Moreno said that Club Tijuana will be a dangerous team with the additions of Gabriel Hauche and Ricardo a Silva in the attack.
XOLOS FOR THE WIN IN PUEBLA
Club Tijuana players and coaching staff arrived in Puebla Friday where it will open the 2015 Clausura against “La Franja.”
The team expects a tough match against a rival that is fighting to avoid relegation. Both teams have faced each other seven times with Club Tijuana leading the series 3-2-2. The game will be played on a different field this time as Puebla’s home field at Estadio Cuauhtémoc is being remodeled. The game will be played at Estadio Universitario BUAP.
“The team is ready 100-percent,” said Xoloitzcuintles midfielder Javier Guemez. “We are going to play well and go play an offensive game.”
Club Tijuana and Puebla last faced each other July 18 at Estadio Caliente in a Week 1 match of the 2014 Apertura with the visiting side winning 1-0. Moreno is the only player on the current squad to have scored against Puebla. He scored in a 1-1 tie in a Week 5 match of the 2011 Apertura.
