TIJUANA - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente defeated Pumas UNAM 3-0 on Friday night at the Estadio Caliente to remain perfect at home after four matches this Clausura 2015 season of LIGA Bancomer MX.Goals from Alfredo Moreno (18th) and two from Juan Arango (20th & 78th) led the home side to claim all three points to remain in second place in the league table.
With two minutes in between each goal, Moreno and Arango sent the Xoloitzcuintles to the halftime break with a two goal lead. The Venezuelan midfielder added a second goal in the second half through a penalty kick which was awarded after Henry Martin was brought down inside of the box by Pumas’ Dario Veron.
The visiting Pumas had pressured the Tijuana defense in the early minutes of the first half but the defenders and goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo stood firm and kept the game scoreless.
After absorbing the initial Pumas attack, Club Tijuana took control of the match, first through possession of the ball and then on the scoreboard. Alfredo Moreno got the home fans jumping in the 18th minute. Argentine midfielder Gabriel Hauche took the ball in midfield and dribbled through three defenders before laying the ball of to Moreno at the top of the box. Moreno took a touch and slotted the ball into the back of net.
Only two minutes later Venezuelan midfielder Juan Arango doubled the lead. Arango took a free kick from about 35 yards out and placed the ball into the top corner of the goal leaving the visiting goalkeeper standing on his line.
For the second half once again the visitors came out with a lot of pressure on the Xoloitzcuintles goal looking for a goal that could bring back some hope.
The home side managed the clock and and the ball after the initial pressure which caused the Pumas players to become frustrated and commit several fouls. The most costly of them being the one on Martin by the Pumas captain Veron producing a penalty kick for Tijuana.
Arango stepped up and converted the penalty shot with another ball placed in the top corner of the goal.
With the win the Xoloitzcuintles remain in second place of the league table with 13 points and continue to boast the best attack of the league with its 13 goals. Next up for Club Tijuana will be a trip to Guadalajara for its Week 7 match against Leones Negros at the Estadio Jalisco.
