CLUB TIJUANA TO HOST CHIAPAS IN QUARTERFINALS
Xoloitzcuintles face Jaguares Wednesday night
TIJUANA - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles now have an opponent for the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Clausura Copa MX. The Xoloitzcuintles will host Chiapas FC at the Estadio Caliente Wednesday night.
“It is a very respectable rival, Jaguares,” Club Tijuana coach Daniel Guzman said. “When we face that moment, we will obviously concentrate on that match and we will see what the strategy will be so that it will help us get to the next round. I am very happy with the work and commitment that our guys show everyday.”
The Xoloitzcuintles (4-0-2) finished the group stage of the competition with an unbeaten with 17 points to top Group 3 as well as the overall standings. With the No.1 seed, Club Tijuana is guaranteed home field advantage throughout the knockout stage.
Club Tijuana had a perfect run at home during the group stage defeating Necaxa (3-1), Coras Tepic (3-2), and Leones Negros (2-0). The team rounded out the group stage with one win on the road (Necaxa) and two draws (Coras and Leones Negros).
Chiapas FC (4-2-0) finished the group stage at the top of Group 6 with 13 points. The Southern jungle side beat Alebrijes Oaxaca, Zacatepec and Pumas UNAM on the road and also picked up a win over Pumas at home. Chiapas fell at home to both Alebrijes and Zacatepec.
The Copa MX knockout stage is played out through one game in the home of the highest seeded team. If the match is tied after the 90 regulatory minutes, the game will be decided through a penalty shootout.
