Club Tijuana coach satisfied with team performance in tie vs. Seattle Sounders

SEATTLE- Club Tijuana coach Daniel Guzman would have preferred a win. But he will take the 2-2 tie against Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders in Tuesday night’s exhibition match at CenturyLink Field.

The Xoloitzcuintles took a 2-1 lead early in the second half after coming back from a 1-0 deficit but the Sounders got a 56th minute goal by Andy Rose to save the tie.

Guzman liked his team’s effort and was happy to have played this match during the FIFA break.

Here are some of Guzman’s quotes while speaking to the media after the game.

DANIEL GUZMAN:

On: Thoughts about the game:

“The game was very intense. We were lost during the first few minutes of the match. I had to modify the tactics and that is how we were able to turn things around with the two goals. I like the team and the match even more because of the intensity that they play and that we were able to nullify them.”

On: How is the game useful:

“The players enjoy playing soccer more than they do practicing, that is logical. We took this game thinking about the preparation for the match against Monterrey. It helped me to see a few players that have not been seeing playing time, to see tactical systems that I might want to implement so that my team won’t become predictable and we could continue to win points and to be at the top of the league.”

On: Leaving happy from CenturyLink?

“I’m leaving happy because I think we saw a good football match by both teams. And I really liked the work from all of the players that I sent in to today’s game.”

On: Very physical game considering it was a friendly?

“Yes, you know it. There are no more friendly matches. There is always that rivalry between the Mexican teams and the U.S. teams. But there was never any foul-intentions. It was very intense for both teams. The draw is a fair result.”

On: The first few minutes Tijuana was played deep in its own field, why?

“I think that during the first ten minutes of the match we were lost out there. But as soon as I modified the tactics to a different formation the team looked a lot better. We created more dangerous opportunities and we nullified their game.”

On: Any injuries?

“Everyone finished fine.”
