CLUB TIJUANA HONORARY GUESTS AT PETCO PARK
San Diego Padres welcome the Xoloitzcuintles for ceremonial “first kick.”
SAN DIEGO –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente visited Petco Park in San Diego Wednesday June 26 to be honorary guests and take part of the ceremonial “first kick.”
Xoloitzcuintles defender Pablo Aguilar kicked a ball sent to home plate by Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso prior to the Padres Major League Baseball game against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.
It was a great atmosphere at the stadium where coach Jorge Almiron’s squad accompanied Aguilar behind home plate for the ceremony as part of a special partnership between both professional sports clubs.
“It is a great experience to be back here in a geographical area with a rich sports history be it baseball or soccer,” said Gomez a United States national team member. “It is an event that allows fans on both sides of the border to unite and have common teams.”
Club Tijuana’s arrival to San Diego marks the start of a preseason training camp in this city leading up the Xoloitzcuintles preseason match at Petco Park against Club America July 6 as part of the San Diego Clasico.
The Xoloitzcuintles will begin training in San Diego Thursday June 27 working on fitness in the mornings and with afternoon sessions as the team prepares for the upcoming LIGA MX-2013 Apertura and 2013-2014 CONCACAF Champions League tournaments.
