Club Tijuana travels to El Salvador for its CONCACAF Champions League debut

MEXICO CITY –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente traveled to El Salvador Sunday Aug. 4 heading to make its CONCACAF Champions League debut Aug. 6 with a Group 7 match against L.A. Firpo of El Salvador.


 


Coach Jorge Almiron’s team trained this past weekend in Mexico City preparing for its second international tournament. Club Tijuana’ s first international tournament was the 2013 Copa Libertadores where it reached the semifinals, losing to eventual champion Atletico Mineiro of Brazil.


 


This new international challenge is another opportunity for Club Tijuana to continue adding to its history. The winner earns a slot in the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup.

Argentine striker Dario Benedetto did not travel to El Salvador after suffering a muscular injury during a LIGA MX Week 4 match against Morelia Saturday. Benedetto stayed behind to begin his rehabilitation process ahead of Club Tijuana’s Aug. 9 match against Pumas UNAM at Estadio Caliente. Tickets to that match go on sale Monday Aug. 5 at the stadium box office from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
