Club Tijuana prepares for Week 14 as it visits CD Toluca in LIGA Bancomer MX-2013 Apertura
TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente continues with its preparations for the LIGA Bancomer MX-2013 Apertura after a hiatus due to the FIFA dates and 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers. The Xoloitzcuintles will travel to this weekend to visit Club Deportivo Toluca Sunday Oct. 20 in a Week 14 match of the Mexican soccer tournament.
The international players who spent time with their respective national teams returned to practice with the Xoloitzcuintles. Fernando Arce (Mexico) and Edgar Castillo (United States) came back to Tijuana. Arce played against Panama in the first of two final CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. He helped set up the game-winning goal in Mexico’s 2-1 win with a pass to Raul Jimenez (Club America). Fidel Martinez, who also made his debut in CONMEBOL qualifying with Ecuador in a 2-1 loss to Chile, will join the Xoloitzcuintles in Toluca.
“We have a lot of confidence heading into this last part of the tournament with all the players we have back,” said Xoloitzcuintles coach Jorge Almiron after Thursday’s practice. “The international players are incorporating. Fidel earned a slot in the World Cup as did Castillo and that is encouraging. Arce got to play in the qualifiers. He is an experienced player used to those types of games and we are going to have him for this weekend’s game.”
Almiron led the practice on the grassy field next to Estadio Caliente, working on some fitness and the offensive and defensive scheme.
“We are confident with what we have worked on these last few days when there were no tournament games,” Almiron said. “We played a friendly against Santos and now we have a full team that is happy and excited about this upcoming game. This is the most important game for us because it is our next one. There are 12 points left. We depend on ourselves to get good results and earn a spot in the playoffs.”
Club Tijuana will train Friday Oct. 18 at Estadio Caliente in the morning then will travel to the State of Mexico to focus on the game scheduled for Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca (10 a.m. Pacific).
