DOUBLE DRAWS IN GUADALAJARA
Xoloitzcuintles Under 17 and Under 20 teams off to a good start
TIJUANA- Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente’s Under-17 and Under-20 teams started off the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura tournament with ties in their respective matches Saturday Jan. 4 in Guadalajara.
The under-17 team played to a scoreless draw against Club Atlas de Guadalajara while the U-17 squad tied 2-2 with Atlas’ U-20 team.
The Under-17 team coached by Ignacio Ruvalcaba played a good match moving its lines up and down the field while goalkeeper Homar Gonzalez pitched the shutout with a good performance. He stopped a penalty kick in the 49th minute. He also made some key saves late in the match to keep the tie.
The Xoloitzcuintles pressured Atlas as Juan Rodriguez and Luis Gerardo Chavez had chances at goal during the match. The Under-17 team gained a point in the standings after beating Atlas 4-2 in penalty kicks after the draw.
The Xoloitzcuintles Under-20 team coached by Diego Torres also had a good outing against Atlas. Argentine striker Dario Benedetto opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute. Benedetto, a starter on the first team, played with the U-20s while he served a red card suspension.
The Xoloitzcuintles pushed with the attack in the second half and forced an own goal in the 48thminute after a centered pass by Edgar Villegas with Luis Trujillo looking to get a header on the ball but it was deflected by the Atlas defense.
Club Tijuana finished with a man down after goalkeeper Sergio Vega was shown a red card. The U-17 goalkeeper, Homar Gonzalez came on for Vega.
Atlas took advantage of the situation and scored in the 56th and 82nd minute when Alejandro Leyva and Jorge Celada found the net.
Both Xoloitzcuintles teams will returns to Tijuana to prepare for Week 2 of the 2104 Clausura in which they will host Club America Friday Jan. 10.
