Soccer Wednesday at Estadio Caliente
Under-17 and Under-20 begin playoffs
TIJUANA -The schedules are ready for the Under-20 and Under-17 playoffs. The Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente youth teams won their ticket into the playoffs and will both host first leg matches at the Estadio Caliente on Wednesday night.
The Under-20 team will face Atlas in the quarterfinals. The Xoloitzcuintles finished the season in sixth place of the league table with 28 points coming from eight wins, four draws. Atlas ended in third place with 32 points from nine wins and five draws.
The only win for the Raul Chabrand boys was precisely against this Atlas side just a few weeks ago in Week 16. Club Tijuana won that match 3-1 with goals from Edgar Villegas and Paul Arriola.
The other teams Club Tijuana defeated this season was Puebla, Chiapas FC, Leones Negros, Santos, Queretaro, Toluca, and Leon; all at home.
Jose Alberto Garcia was the Xoloitzcuintles highest goal scorer with eight goals including a brace against Pachuca in Week 8. For Atlas, Martin Barragan was their highest goal scorer with six goals.
The U-17 squad will play at 6:45pm also at the Estadio Caliente. The Xoloitzcuintles will face off against Santos Laguna in the quarterfinals. Marco Antonio Marroquin’s boys finished the season in sixth place with 40 points after nine wins and three draws. The Santos Laguna side finished in third place with 45 points after 11 wins and three draws.
Eduardo Daniel Aguirre and Ronaldo Cisneros from Santos were the highest goal scorers in the entire U-17 division with 15 and 12 goals respectfully. For the Xoloitzcuintles Cesar Crespo was the highest scorer with eight goals.
With great excitement and with the support from the home crowd the Club Tijuana squads will look to get a positive result in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the National Youth tournament in order to take an important step into the semifinals.
The Xoloitzcuintles fans are welcome to enjoy both games free of charge on Wednesday night at the Estadio Caliente. Access will be through Gate 2.
