“WE HAVE TO PLAY OUR GAME,” –BENEDETTO

Club Tijuana striker confident heading into next match

TIJUANA –Argentine striker Dario Benedetto has an idea of what will be a key in Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente’s next match up: keeping ball possession. Imposing an offensive attack and creating a rhythm early on are the other keys to a win when Club Tijuana hosts Queretaro FC in Week 13 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Apertura at Estadio Caliente.

Bendetto, known as “Pipa,” believes the team has worked well and it has to repeat what it has done in recent matches as a team, although the work and fight on the field hasn’t translated into favorable results.

“Other than the tie in Monterrey, we have played well,” Benedetto, said. “We played a great game and we have to repeat that.”

Benedetto said he is satisfied with the work the team put in this week, including a pair of intersquad scrimmages against the Under-20 and Under-17 squads. He said the team is focused on its next rival.

After 12 weeks of LIGA MX play, the Xoloitzcuintles have 13 points in the standings as the No. 12 team. Benedetto is confident the team will be a tough opponent at home and get closer to being in the top eight teams that earn a playoff spot.

“We are aware that we don’t have a margin for error,” Benedetto said. “We have to get a good result in all of our games, get three points or one point. We can’t lose anymore if we want to qualify to the playoffs. We are aware that we need to gain the most possible points during our remaining games.”

The Xoloitzcuintles striker has seen action in 862 minutes in the 2014 Apertura. He has scored five of the team’s 12 goal in the tournament. He said his teammates must remain calm and not become desperate.

“As strikers, we need to think that every chance at goal we get we can’t miss it,” Benedetto said. “But we also can’t get desperate because that will play against us. We must remain calm so that when we have those chances, we can complete (the scoring play).

Bendetto said he is ready for the match against Queretaro FC Friday Oct. 17 (7:30 p.m.) at Estadio Caliente.
