TIJUANA – Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente played to a 3-3 draw against Atlas de Guadalajara in the LIGA MX 2013-Aperura season opener for both teams Friday night at Estadio Caliente.
Dario Benedetto scored three times for Club Tijuana (7th, 18th and 64th minute). The goals were the first for Benedetto in the Mexican First Division. The Argentine-striker was the Xoloitzcuintles last off season acquisition for the club. Benedetto’s hat trick is the first by any Xoloitzcuintle in the First Division.
Paul Arriola made his professional debut in the 61st minute and three minutes later he fed Benedetto with a slow filtered pass to set up the scoring play that gave Club Tijuana a 3-1 lead.
Atlas answered with two goals of its own.
Vicente Matias Vuoso , who had scored in the 29th minute via a penalty kick, found the net again. He scored again in the 70th minute via a bicycle kick after bring the ball down with his chest cutting the Xoloitzcuintles lead to 3-2. Edson Rivera tied the match in the 84th minute to save a point for his squad.
The Xoloitzcuintles earned the first point of the season and the first for Jorge Almiron as Club Tijuana coach.
