“RESPECT FOR GUADALAJARA BUT MY GOAL IS CLEAR.” –DANIEL GUZMAN

Xoloitzcuintles coach looks forward to match

TIJUANA – Daniel Guzman has been with teams that have been facing relegation. He has been with team that wouldn’t win. That is why he understands the situation his next opponent is a tough position to be in and he respects it. But the Xoloitzcuintles coach is still going into Sunday’s match against Chivas looking for the win.

Guzman and his staff have studied Guadalajara and know what that team is capable of even if it hasn’t won recently.

“This game is about what you are doing now and not what has happened in the past,” Guzman said. “We know they can be dangerous. What they have done in the past, they can forget it, forget their errors and come back strong. We respect Guadalajara, but my objective is to get the Xolos its first road win and that is what motivates me right now.”

Guzman, known as “El Travieso,” has been coaching Club Tijuana for 45 days and he has tried to inject the worth of daily hard work in his players.

“I have always said that we can improve every day at every practice,” Guzman said. “We can improve on a lot of things, individually, as a group and get better overall. We want to do important things and qualify to the playoffs in this short span of time.”

It is not clear who will start for Guzman Sunday at Estadio Omnilife but watching practice this week you could get a look at what could be on the field on game day. Greg Garza and Juan Carlos Nuñez were the left and right backs.

The only doubt might be striker Alfredo Moreno, who didn’t finish practice Thursday after absorbing a hit. He could be replaced by Colombian striker Dayro Moreno.

“I put a lot of emphasis on ball possession,” Guzman said. “We need to have more possession Sunday and look to score,” Guzman said. “I ask for that in every practice.”

The Xoloitzcuintles are ready to travel to Guadalajara Friday. Club Tijuana will face a dangerous team but will try to impose its will and try to win the game.

“They want points and so do we,” Guzman said. “But we want them for a different objective.”
